Initative Highlights

Green Pulse initiatives take different forms across regions, but all are rooted in the same idea: meaningful environmental action must reflect the communities it serves. By combining shared goals with local insight, our chapters lead efforts that are both grounded and globally connected. Below are selected highlights, organized by continent, showcasing the range of work across our chapters.

Highlights from Our North American Chapters

North America is where Green Pulse began, and our chapters here continue to lead much of our work. Alongside a strong foundation in environmental education, they place a heavy emphasis on policy and advocacy, often collaborating with local organizations and movements, to push for tangible, community-level change.​

 

  • Drafted and helped pass Illinois Bill HB4895, mandating K–12 climate education statewide

  • Testified in support of Evanston City’s plastic bag ban (Ord 1-O-23), contributing to the elimination of ~200,000 plastic bags annually

  • Supported statewide advocacy for SB1531, banning polluting foam food containers across Illinois

  • Partnered with educators in Arizona to advance climate curriculum adoption in K–12 districts, supporting early-stage implementation efforts

  • Mobilized student coalitions across Denver Public Schools (~90,000+ students) to support expanded climate education and sustainability policy efforts

  • Supported community advocacy aligned with California’s SB 54 (Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act), engaging students in waste reduction and policy awareness initiatives

  • Contributed to youth-led advocacy efforts connected to New York’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), promoting climate literacy and community engagement

  • Worked with student groups in the Toronto District School Board (~240,000+ students) to support climate education and initiatives aligned with Canada’s broader Net-Zero Emissions Accountability framework

  • Reached students through presentations in 30+ schools

Highlights from Our African Chapters

Africa is a region undergoing rapid development, and our chapters here focus on ensuring this growth occurs sustainably. Alongside a foundation in environmental education, they place a strong emphasis on responsible resource use, particularly in water management and agriculture, working with local communities to support practices that are both effective and locally grounded.

  • Supported community-led efforts in Cameroon to reduce plastic bag usage, contributing to the removal of approximately 150,000–250,000 plastic bags annually through local campaigns and distribution alternatives

  • Coordinated large-scale awareness and reduction initiatives across Nigeria, targeting single-use plastic water bottles and engaging thousands of students and community members in reuse and waste reduction efforts

  • Introduced sustainable irrigation practices in Rwanda, working with 30+ smallholder farms to promote more efficient water use through techniques such as controlled watering schedules and low-cost irrigation systems

  • Supported the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices in Kenya, reaching 40+ farms with methods including soil health management, crop rotation, and reduced water waste

  • Partnered with local communities in South Africa to promote water conservation strategies in regions facing increasing water stress, integrating education with practical implementation

  • Reached students through presentations in 15+ schools

Highlights from Our Asian Chapters

​Asia is defined by dense, rapidly urbanizing cities, and our chapters here focus on tackling the environmental pressures that come with this scale. Alongside environmental education, they prioritize air quality, responding to persistently high pollution levels across many regions, while leading initiatives that engage urban communities in everyday sustainability practices.

  • ​Supported student-led advocacy and awareness efforts aligned with India’s National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), contributing to outreach across cities targeting a 20–30% reduction in particulate pollution

  • Led air quality education and monitoring initiatives across chapters in Gujarat and Maharashtra (India), engaging 500+ students in understanding PM2.5 impacts and mitigation strategies

  • Partnered with schools in Punjab, India to introduce environmental curriculum modules focused on air pollution and sustainable practices, reaching multiple classrooms across district-level institutions

  • Conducted urban air quality awareness campaigns in Dubai, UAE, engaging hundreds of students and community members on pollution sources, health impacts, and reduction strategies

  • Supported youth engagement initiatives aligned with the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy, promoting sustainability education and community-level climate action

  • Reached students through presentations in 15+ schools

Highlights from Our European Chapters

Europe is a region at the forefront of climate policy and sustainable living, and our chapters here focus on translating these priorities into everyday action. Alongside environmental education, they emphasize behavioral change and circular practices, working with communities to reduce waste and promote more sustainable lifestyles.

  • Led community-based sustainability initiatives in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, engaging 100+ students and community members in environmental education and outreach

  • Organized campaigns to reduce single-use plastic consumption, supporting broader alignment with the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive and regional waste reduction efforts

  • Reached students through presentations in 5+ schools
